The San Jose Mission (Mission San Jose y San Miguel de Aguayo) is next to the visitor center. Called the "Queen of the Missions” because of its size, most definitely larger than the other four, the San Jose was restored in the 1930s to its original design. Sculptures, ornate windows, and carved doors have survived today in much the same shape as hundreds of years ago. San Jose is an active parish and still has a weekly Sunday mass.
